Hello fellow Runners! My name is Helen and welcome to my running blog.
On Sunday 4th October 2015 I will be running the Chester Marathon to raise money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind. This blog is to keep you up to date with my training, and fundraising as the day nears. I have been running for around 10 years now and this will be my 7th Marathon and I am really really really hopeful I will be able to break the 5 hour barrier that has been plaguing me. Currently my PB is 5:06:23, so close, yet so far.
Why the Guide Dogs?
The Guide Dogs are a charity that are very close to my heart and I currently sponsor two guide dogs in training, Angel (a Golden Retriever/ Labrador Cross) and Felix (a black lab).
This is Angel, one of the puppies that I sponsor
My Grandfather was blind, and although he never had a guide dog, a lot of the campaigns which the Guide Dogs promote are issues that my Grandpa struggled with. The most notable being the Talking Busses campaign,. My Grandpa was lucky enough to have friends that would tell him when to get off the bus, but imagine how disconcerting it would be if you were on a bus with no idea where you are, and be unable to read any signs displayed around the vehicle. To find out more about this campaign and the rest of the amazing work the guide dogs do, please visit their website http://www.guidedogs.org.uk/
I hope that you can join me for my journey to the end of the Chester Marathon. I will be posting my JustGiving page shortly, so prepare for the blatant money grab when I ask for sponsorship.
